The largest in Eastern Europe gender project comes to an end, analyzes results

closing18 manuals, almost 2500 trainings for 50000 different workers and officials, 3 education centers, 5 academic departments, one completed gender map of Ukraine. These are results of the three-ears work of Equal Opportunities and Women’s Rights in Ukraine Programme (EU-UNDP joint project). The project started in September 2008 and was aimed to support Ukrainian Government and civil society in the implementation of gender equality mechanisms.

At the initial stage, it was important to lay the grounds, educate and explain the importance of the gender equality and gender machinery to Ukrainian people and officials.

According to 2010 data, Ukraine is ranked 63 out of 134 countries in terms of gender equality indicators. During the Project finalization conference held in Kyiv on 16 December 2011,  many experts agreed that  three years was not enough time to see drastic change in  how  Ukainian society views  gender issues.

16 days against gender violence start in Ukraine

carics2011On November 25, 2011 when the world marks  the International Day of the Elimination of Violence against Women   the annual worldwide campaign "16 days of activism against gender violence” was launched. In Ukraine the campaign started with the double exhibition of the best caricatures on gender stereotypes and best posters on prevention of violence against women.

"Gene of equality" of Ukrainian youth: GenderFilmFest awards movie winners

genfestKyiv - The Youth Film Festival “GenderFilmFest” was organized on November 12 by UNDP together with the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine with support from the Ukraine’s Ministry of Social Policy. The organizers and jury awarded the authors of the best short films highlighting existing gender stereotypes in Ukrainian society.

Ukrainian and European politicians and experts discuss current trends in the development of national gender equality mechanisms

coe_smKyiv - Within the framework of the Ukrainian Chairmanship of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, the 2-day International Conference on the Current Trends of Development of National Gender Mechanisms in European Countries has begun its work.  It was co-organised by the United Nations Development Programme and the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine.
