Chernihiv, 2-3 September 2010: UNDP experts together with specialists from the Ministry of Ukraine for Family, Youth and Sports have presented an evaluation method for social programmes. In 2010, the State Programme on Gender Equality and a number of regional programmes come to completion, which requires a number of new programmes. To ensure the development of quality programmes, the Ministry of Ukraine for Family, Youth and Sport with the support from UNDP will conduct monitoring of the implementation of previous state programmes in order to reflect the lessons learned in the past.

Kyiv, 27 August: The Main Department of Civil Service of Ukraine has organized a public discussion of the draft strategy of civil servants policy designed for 2011-2020. It is expected the strategy will respond to the current challenges and provide methods for more effective use of human potential. It is for the first time when such a document contains a separate section on gender policy. The participants repeatedly emphasized the need to incorporate gender approaches in modern system personnel management.

Kharkiv, 11-12 August. Persons who committed domestic violence in Ukraine are often punished with a fine, often paid by the victim herself from a common household budget. This mostly happens in Ternopils’ka oblast’ - this year, 98.5 % of offenders were punished with a fine (within the framework of the Administrative Code) and  only up to 1,5% have been put under administrative arrest for 5 days. This information was presented by UNDP experts during a seminar, devoted to the joint work of state and local bodies of power  in the sphere of domestic violence prevention. The workshop brought together the experts from the departments of Family and Youth Services for Children, the criminal police for children, centres for social services for families, children and youth, district inspectors of police from Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy and Chernihiv regions.

A high profile working group to draw up new state programme on gender equality PDF Print E-mail

Kyiv, 11 June: The State Programme on ensuring gender equality in Ukrainian society expires this year. This is why it is necessary to start drafting the new Programme which will take into account previous implementation results, meeting new challenges. At the same time there are only 7.5% women in Ukrainian Parliament, there are no women among the nation's ministers and governors, while women’s salaries make only 68.6% of men’s salaries. All this has been discussed at the sitting of the All-Ukrainian Council on ensuring gender equality in Ukraine, which was hosted by the Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports of Ukraine. The Council attracted Ministerial staff, regional officials, representatives of NGOs, international organizations and experts.

UNDP supports seminars on how to use gender statistics in Ukrainian regions PDF Print E-mail

Odessa, 25-26 March: Many officials and NGO representatives remain largely unaware of gender statistics as a necessary tool for the elaboration of strategic programmes and action plans, a survey by the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine says. In response to this, "Equal Opportunities and Women’s Rights in Ukraine Programme" (a joint EU-UNDP Project) together with the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine has initiated a number of seminars educating on how to make effective use of gender statistics.
